Every New Year brings with it a slew of New Years’ Resolutions. And within a few weeks or months, (and for some of us, within a few days), all those New Years’ Resolutions are long forgotten. I haven’t been immune to this phenomenon either, and there have been many a resolution that I haven’t kept. I’m sure all of you resonate too! However, over the past couple of years, some things changed for me. And when I added my Tarot Cards to the mix, then the results started to show. Today, I’m going to share my insights with you, in the hopes that perhaps you too can benefit from this process of making and keeping New Years’ Resolutions with the help of Tarot Cards.

Change of Mindset

As I said before, over the past couple of years, some things changed. Essentially, I’ve had a change of mindset — I’ve been wanting to actually keep those New Years’ Resolutions — mostly because I wanted to do better with certain areas of my life that had been stagnating and floundering. The Big Why

Personally, I think this was the biggest reason that made a huge difference to me keeping my New Years’ Resolutions. When you really make up your mind about something, that’s the kind of a motivation that nothing and no one can replace.

The Big Why

And the biggest reason for this change started when I began to think about the real reason why I wanted certain things in the first place. That’s actually what got me started.

For example, one of the most repeated New Years’ Resolutions across the board is usually about getting fit. I also had a similar resolution that I never kept. But when I started to really look at why I wanted to get fit, things began to change.

Of course, I also put my cards to work, by pulling just one card to give me more information about my reason. And then I expanded upon that, to see some more information.

4 Card More Info SpreadThe More Information Spread

Here’s that simple, but very effective spread that I used to get more information about this topic.

And although this spread looks simple, it offers a wealth of information regarding any specific topic you want to throw at it. I used it to figure out what ups and downs lay ahead of me as I moved past the “Why?” and stepped into the “How?” territory of my quest.

And of course, this is super customizable as well — you can totally add more spread positions, depending on the additional information / guidance you want.

New Years’ Resolutions to Align Yourself with the Energy of the Universe

This is something that really brings out the best from what the Tarot Cards can offer. Having access to the information from the Universe means that you can ask the Tarot Cards about what you can do so that you are better aligned with the energies of the Universe.

Once you are better aligned, you will be more tuned in, and more in the flow of this energy. And that eventually translates to being more in touch with your intuitive and manifesting side.

It is as simple as asking the cards to tell you what to do to so you can be more aligned with the energy of the Universe.

Watch the Video

I made a video at the beginning of this year, where I figure my way through the spread I’ve shared above. And in this video, I ask the cards to guide me through 2 such goals: one where I know what I want (keeping my fitness), and one where I want the Universe to tell me how to remain more aligned with my life’s path and purpose. Watch the video, so you can have a practical demonstration of this process in action, in real life.

And as is the case with Tarot, you can totally modify the spread to suit your specific requirements. This video is a great framework that can help you get started with this practice.

Keeping Your New Years’ Resolutions

Making New Years’ Resolutions and even getting the guidance from the Tarot Cards is pretty straightforward and simple enough to do. However, keeping those New Years’ Resolutions is where most of us really have a hard time.

While the spread that I’ve shared above does talk about the hurdles in the path, and how to overcome them, and how to stay motivated going forward, there are still some more things that can and do help this process.

You Have the Power

While your Tarot Cards will show you the way and the method, ultimately you have to act upon those decisions. You have all the power in the world to make the changes in your life — and your Tarot Cards will always guide you to do and be the best that you can. But actually doing what needs to be done is truly up to you. With your Tarot Cards supporting you and guiding you, you are in the best possible position, already primed for success. You already have access to all that power. You just have to use it.

Looking Ahead and Planning Accordingly

One of the best ways to plan your year is to do a simple Annual Reading for yourself. I usually do one before the year begins, and while I’m planning out the next steps for each of my resolutions. Just pull a card for each month of the year to see what the energy flow for each month will be like. You can either keep the focus of the reading open, so you get an overall big picture view. Or you can focus the reading’s energies for the specific area of your life that you are planning on working on during the year, such as your Career, Finances, Relationships, Romance, Family etc.

Once you get an idea of what lies ahead, you can then look at your resolutions and the next steps, and plan out when to implement the steps. If you implement the steps during the times that are more favorable for those specific steps, you will, naturally, stand a better chance at being successful at those steps. In this way, you are harnessing the flow of the Universe to work for you. You are allowing yourself to actually be more in the flow of things, and thus allowing the Universe to work more in your favor.

Also, when you see times in the year which may not be favorable — you can actually use your planning process to prepare yourself for it in advance. You can, then, reduce the impact of these negative situations on your life / life areas and thus take the best advantage of having access to the wisdom of the Universe via these lovely Tarot Cards.

journalingReview Regularly to Reignite

Just making a resolution and even doing a nice spread about it isn’t enough. Time and again, you need to go back to it and look at it, review it. Refreshing that knowledge reignites that Fire, that Passion that coursed through your veins when you made that resolution in the first place. While reviewing, make sure you also look at your ‘Big Why’ as well — because that’s the spark that’ll keep the fire burning. That is what will keep you rooted to the reason why you’ve resolved to do that thing.

And you need to touch base with that as often as you must. Be it monthly, or quarterly, or semi-annually — or even every week or every fortnight — go back to that starting point and relight that fire as and when you feel that it is dying down.

Pull A Card (or Two) for Guidance

There’s no reason to restrict the guidance that you receive from the cards to just your planning stage. You can always pull a card (or two) while you are journaling about your Big Why. Every single time that you feel your energy lacking, or you feel as if life is challenging you from all sides, go to your journal and write down your thoughts. Ask the cards for guidance and suggestions to help you pull through this phase, or difficulty. And keep working towards your resolutions no matter what.

Of course, knowing and reaffirming your Big Why is exactly the fuel you need to help you do this — but it certainly helps to bolster that fire with the helping nudge of the Universe.

Change To Go Forward

We usually plan the next steps based on our New Years’ Resolutions. But then there are always variables that affect those plans. So you need to be able to change those plans as and when needed. This keeps you on your toes and keeps things fresh and exciting. Especially if you are someone who starts getting bored with the same routines day-in and day-out (like I do), then these changes actually add a sense of adventure to this journey.

For example, if for your fitness resolution you decided to join an aerobics class, but your doctor advised you against it, then you can totally switch it up and join a yoga class (or any other class which your doctor is okay with). You don’t have to drop your fitness goals, just change the way that you achieve them.

A good time to figure out and implement these changes can be during the review process — but that’s not mandatory. Depending on the sort of changes you are making, you can also effect those changes on-the-go. As I said earlier, a sense of adventure can keep things fresh and alive. So while you keep working towards your goals, you can also keep feeling as excited about achieving them as you were when you set those goals.

Ask Your Cards

And, I cannot stress on this enough: if you are stuck, ask your cards. They’ll tell you what to do. More often than not, they’ll set the thought processes in motion.

Forgive Yourself

If you do fall off the wagon, so what? There are many who do. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up. Get back up and start over. Maybe you need to make some changes in the way you achieve your goals? Or maybe you need to review them more often than you are doing right now? Perhaps you need to write your ‘Big Why’ on a post-it and stick it to your bathroom mirror so you see it everyday.

Do what it takes to get yourself motivated and back on track. Most of us end up feeling guilty for having given up and then don’t begin again.

Guilt Trips are where the majority of incomplete New Years’ Resolutions go to die.

Don’t let that happen to your New Years’ Resolutions. Forgive yourself for being human, and get back on track.

Just Get Back to It

Yes, this point needs to be driven — no hammered — home. Don’t waste time on guilt trips — they won’t take you anywhere close to your goals. You’ll just wallow in your shame and be miserable. And you won’t achieve your goals.

When you fall off your path, just forgive yourself, and get right back in the saddle. Feeling guilty about this is just a massive waste of time. If a change is required within the path, implement it, and begin again.

It might help to journal all your thoughts and feelings and see that as a way of letting things go. Essentially, do what it takes to stop yourself from stalling your progress, and get back on your path.

Rinse. Repeat.

Yup. That’s sort of it.

Keep at it and keep keeping at it. Sooner or later, you’ll discover your perfect process, and you’ll be closer to achieving your New Years’ Resolutions than ever before.

Your Tarot Cards are There For You

Don’t stop. Keep going. Keep making those New Years’ Resolutions and keep achieving them! Your cards are always with you, to help you and guide you along the way. Reach out for your deck and ask them for guidance at every point where you feel stuck and stymied. Look at what the card is all about.

If you feel stuck because of the multiple meanings and how it applies to your specific situation — then there’s a simple technique that’ll help. Figure out that card’s one-line Card Story.

Go Back To Basics

Just look at the Tarot Card and ask yourself what it’s basic meaning is all about. Go back to that very simple and basic place of the card’s meaning. Figure out the one-line card story. Look at the card with that one-line story in mind, and then look at the context of your question. Now, you’ll find it easier to connect the dots.

Sometimes too much information can also be a barrier to interpretation — so simplify the card to it’s very basic one-line card story, and you’ll often have exposed the hidden vein of gold that is your answer.

See the Story of your Life Taking Shape

With these Tarot Cards as the mirror of your inner and outer world, you can see the story of your life as it unfolds in the form of a spread on your Reading Table. You’ll discover that you and your life, both, are a work in progress. You are always figuring things out, perfecting things, learning, relearning and unlearning things, and above all, discovering and recreating yourself all the time.

Whatever it is that you are experiencing right now, is merely a small chapter in an epic saga of your life. ?  And while you are the heroine (or hero) of your life story, this is just another obstacle / hardship that you need to overcome in order to keep moving ahead in the adventure of your life.

Looking at things from such an objective point of view, is certainly a great way to see things a bit more clearly. We are always quite invested in our own lives, and a reading for oneself can actually be the objective perspective that one needs in order to clearly figure out what needs to be done, and then discovering how it can be done.
